Apply to be a SAO first year intern! First Year Interns become a part of the SAO Board, attending both board and general meetings regularly. They help facilitate general meets and plan events for the year with the help of experienced board members. 2011-2012 Big Sib/Lil Sib Program!

Hello, Current and Incoming APIA Students of Swarthmore!

We, at Swarthmore Asian Organization, are in the process of planning our yearly Big Sib/Lil Sib Program. Every year, SAO pairs upperclassmen with incoming freshmen, big sibs with little sibs, according to their background, academic, and extracurricular interests. This year, we’ll be planning a scavenger hunt and a dim sum trip to Philly!

What big sibs and lil sibs do:

- Send out e-mails introducing yourself. Be sure to play nice!!
- Spend quality time with your sibs by going to the Big Sib/Little Sib events!

- Family dinner! Have a meal with your sibs at least once.

If you’re interested in becoming a big sib or a lil sib, please send Shelly Wen (swen1 (at) swarthmore.edu) or Yuwen Wang (ywang3 (at) swarthmore.edu) a quick e-mail letting us know!

On April 8th, I, Kevin Terusaki, participated in LASS’s Mr. Swarthmore fundraising event. Being my humble self, I’d say I was PRETTY FREAKING AWESOME being the runner up for the Mr. Swarthmore title. Just kidding I’m not that egotistic. Everyone who participated did an amazing job. I’d like to make a special thanks to those SAO members who came out and supported me.

Redux or Remix Lecture with Vivian Ota Wang

On April 6th NIH Program Director, Vivian Ota Wang, gave a lecture on scientific and social issues related to genomics and behavioral/psychological sciences research such as how assumptions about racial affiliations and genetics influence perceptions of genetic, environmental, and social contributions to disease.

APIA Month Concert

On April 2nd, SAO hosted its APIA Month Concert in celebration of APIA Month. The concert showcased Decipher, Taiyo Na & Magnetic North as well as Swarthmore student performers. The featured artists gave Swarthmore students a great performance. They excited the crowd with their rhythmic lyrics and welcomed them to sing along.

Life After Swat Alumni Panel

On May 29th SAO hosted an Alumni Panel that featured various alums in different professional fields. The alums were asked questions that shed light on their experiences. They also gave advice not only about finding or applying for jobs, but social advice for us awkward Swatties.

Rich Tu recap

Last Friday March 18th, Rich Tu gave us some insight into his life as an illustrator/designer. It was an interesting lecture showcasing much of his awesome art, giving insight into art as a career, and encouraging us with words of wisdom to pursue our own careers. Following the lecture, Rich Tu showcased some of his tricks with art using Photoshop.
